An Analysis Of Eye Movement In The Drivers’ Visual Search With Anxiety

Statistics show that, compared with advanced driver, novice driver’s rate oftraffic accidents is higher. Visual search of the road affected driving safety directly.Anxiety is a common emotion, which tends to have a bad influence on driving.Therefore, did anxiety affect the change of visual search pattern? Did it candistinguish the advanced driver and novice driver?This study focuses on the feature of anxiety of different driver. Throughexperiment analysis, we compare the difference of visual search between advancedand novice driver, aiming at exploring the effect of experience and road condition,and the results are practical to evaluate the training effect on anxiety.This study includes three parts. In study1, explore the state of anxiety of noviceand advanced driver by using a questionnaire. In study2, we conduct a2（experience:novice and advance）×2（roads：simple and complex）mixed experiment design toexplore the difference of visual search between novice and advanced driver while theyare driving in calm conditions. And in study3, we further explore the difference inanxious condition.The results are as following:（1）Compared with advanced driver, novice driver are more prone to anxiety（2）In calm condition, there are no significant difference between novice andadvanced drivers on matter the road is simple or complex.（3）In calm condition, the visual search patterns changes as the roads conditionschange, and in complex road condition, both drivers focus on the centre of the roadahead.（4）We can evoke anxiety in the lab, and the lever of anxiety of novice driver ishigher than that of advanced drivers.（5）Anxiety reduces the targets that drivers should look, the decrease is morewhen drivers are in complex condition, and the decrease is more for novice driver.（6）Anxiety can cause the deviation of visual attention. The visual attentiondeviation is more when drivers are in complex condition, and it is more for novicedrivers too.
