Manchu is an important member in the big family of the Chinese peoples. Duringthe history of development, it had set up a powerful feudal empire, and had created aglorious culture including poems, lyrics, poetic essays, paintings and so on. All thesehad enriched Chinese culture. Akedun is from Manchuria and he was born in a noblefamily. He is not only an official, but also a poet. Unlike other ordinary scholars, he isalso a military attache. He had very rich experiences in his life, such as commandedthe Hanlin Yuan three times, gone campaigning twice, been sent on a diplomaticmission Zhungeer, visited North Korean fourth, etc. All of these had made Akedunstand out among the Manchu scholars in Qing dynasty. However, the researchersmainly focused their attentions on Akedun’s life experiences, his poems about thefrontier fortress to their origins, as well as the painting A Journey of Diplomacy, theydid not study his remain poems. So, there are still a lot of work to do to study thispoet.This paper is divided into four parts: the first part will describe his familybackground, learning experiences, experiences worked as an official during the periodof Kangxi’s and Yongzheng’ domination, and the work to compile the ancient books,etc. As a poet from Manchuria, he had played an important role among thoseManchurian writers. The second part will discuss his poems by classifying them intothe frontier poems, scenery poems, farewell poems, extolling poems, and so on. Thethird part will demonstrate the artic features of his poems from two aspects—theartistic conceptions and the language, and the main features are splendid, brilliant,excited, colorful, etc. And the final part will summarize Akedun’s influences on thelater generations and his eminent status on both the Manchuria poetry and thedevelopment of Manchu literature.
