The preposition "Yu"(于)and "Yu"(於)appeared earlier, used high frequently and hadrich grammatical function in the ancient Chinese, but the relationship between them is verycomplex, they not only can be used universally, but also have the unique personality,so theyhad aroused the attention of the academic circles. But the research perspective is notcomprehensive, and there still is no uniform understanding. In view of this,we explore thefactors influencing the use of the two preposition from the internal and external two aspectscombining with the ancient documents and unearthed literature to find the essentialrelationship between them.We according to the time sequence discuss the different use cases of the preposition"Yu"(于)and "Yu"(於)in the Western Zhou Dynasty, spring and Autumn Warring Statesperiod, in the early and mid late Warring States period by means of statistical methods.Wefound the preposition "Yu"(于)in its heyday and the preposition "Yu"(於)in its bud, peoplemainly use the preposition "Yu"(于)in the Western Zhou Dynasty. The spring and autumnperiod is the declining period of the preposition "Yu"(于)and the strength period of thepreposition "Yu"(於),but they still used mainly the preposition "Yu"(于).In the Warringstates people used the two preposition with more confusion, the preposition "Yu"(於)startedto replace the preposition "Yu"(于),therefore different literature used them differently. In thelater period of warring states, the number of the preposition "Yu"(于)far exceeded thepreposition "Yu"(於),and the preposition "Yu"(於)occupied the absolute advantage. In aword, they have experienced the evolution of a trade-off in the Western and Eastern ZhouDynasties. Based on the study of the different usage of the two preposition in differentliterature,we found in addition to the main ages factors, they also affected by the regional、data sources、genre、style、carrier content and so on.We then discussed the internal factors influencing the different use of the twopreposition from the semantic, grammar position, and object collocation, and the predicatecenter,to reveal the nature relationship between the two preposition. In the semanticfunction, they both can introduce premises, introduce the object and introduce the time. Thepreposition "Yu"(于)had been dominant in introducing premises, The preposition "Yu"(於)is superior in the introduction object. The preposition "Yu("於)not only had the old functionof the preposition "Yu"(于),but also had the new function not found in the preposition "Yu"(于). In the syntax position, the preposition "Yu"(于)and "Yu"(於)both were after the predicate to be used as objective complements. In the before of a predicate, we mainly usedthe preposition "Yu"(於). And with the ante displacement of the Chinese prepositionstructure, there was an unpick in the proportion of the "Yu"(於)using before of a predicate. Inthe collocation with object and predicate, the choice of the preposition "Yu"(于)were moreflexible and diversified.Perhaps it is because of the different of the prosperous period betweenthe two preposition. In conclusion,we believe that the two preposition had no essential difference in thegrammatical function, the difference was caused by the different times. The preposition "Yu"(于)and "Yu"(於)were two different forms of the same word, the preposition "Yu"(于)had the old function of the word, and the preposition "Yu"(於)undertook more of its newfunction, and the preposition "Yu"(於)gradually replaced the preposition "Yu"(于).
