When humans use verbal language in communication, at the same time, it must be accompanied by facial expressions and sign language; these gestures are collectively referred to body language. As one of the main part of nonverbal communication, body language plays an irreplaceable role in the process of human communication. The mainly functions of body language are indication, propriety and explanation in the process of human communication; they can help us convey our motivation exactly.The communication between students and teachers is not only universal, but also particular in Chinese classroom. In the class of teaching Chinese as second language, teachers always teach the students from different countries who speak different languages. There are serious communication barriers between teachers and students, if teachers only use media language to explain questions, the teaching can hardly achieve satisfactory results. Consequently, teachers should put body language as auxiliary teaching means when they teach Chinese.Firstly this article discusses body language systematically, concluding definition, characteristic and the classification of teachers’body language, and summarize the body language’s effects specifically. Secondly, the author takes advantage of her teaching practice in Thailand; analyze the videos which include the teachers and the students’body languages. Furthermore, author also does the experiments about the influence about the using of teachers’ body language, and writes the teaching cases to prove the effects of body language in Chinese teaching. Finally, Considering the Thai culture the author puts forward problems and taboos which should be noticed by teachers about teaching body language in class. The author thinks that body language plays an important role in teaching Chinese as a foreign language; it also has the profound influence on the teaching effect, before we teach Chinese in body language, we should consider about the cross-cultural communication first.
