When the music communities in China consider the communication between Chineseand Western music culture, they have traditionally focused on the pattern of “from the west tothe east” and the influence of western music on Chinese music. Thus there are relatively lessinvestigations on the problem of “from the east to the west”. Among these investigations, onlya few music scholars have done the related researches. Some of them refer to the content ofthis study in music history, while some of them do the studies related to dynasties. However, there are no studies on the influence of Chinese music on the western music in the period ofromantic times. Thus we consider the issue of the music in romantic times. By using themethod of comparison and analysis, we are going to present the influences of Chinese musicon the western music. The thesis is divided into five parts. In the first part, we are going to give an introductionto the background of the subject, the context, the recent development and the method ofinvestigation. In chapter1, we will give a review of the communication of music in romanticand earlier times. In chapter2, we will discuss the influence of traditional Chinese culture onthe language of music in romantic times, including the rhythm, speed and the tones. In chapter3, we will discuss the influence of traditional Chinese culture on the concept of music inromantic times. This chapter has two parts, namely to promote "integrated arts" and "titlemusic" and focus on the subjective nature and emphasis on personal performance. Finally, wehave the conclusion.
