| Tibetans, living on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (the roof of the world) for generations, are great people in China with long history and splendid culture. They have contributed a lot to the development of human civilization, especially the development of Chinese culture. Costume, which is indispensible for the living and production of Tibetans, not only acquires its own characteristics, but also bears the heavy snow-covered plateau culture connotations. Thus, it offers a significant access to the understanding and interpretation of Tibetan history and culture.With a vast range of distribution, Tibetans, scattering in Tibet, Sichuan, Qinghai, Gansu and Yunan province, mainly engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry, have different costumes in different areas due to the climate factors. Related records and pictures show that the shaping of Tibetan costume style has experienced a long historical process of formation and evolution. The factors like natural geographic conditions, production and living styles, national unique culture, foreign culture and religion all played a great part in this process.In contemporary society, the progress of science and technology leads to the rapid development of society. Traditional civilization faces huge challenges during this change and the inheritance of traditional culture runs into trouble. Thus, the ultimate goal of this study is to explore the ways to develop national costume in contemporary society from the development process of national costume. We try to provide some useful implications for the development of traditional Tibetan costume from the experience of the two Tibetan local clothing brands,"YEEOM" and "Cailuo Clothing". In the context of global economic integration, the inheritance of traditional Tibetan costume depends on the following factors:proper application of modern new materials and technology, mechanization and mass production, combination of traditional and modern elements in costume. We should introduce fashionable costumes which can embody the features of the Tibetans and meet the aesthetic requirements of people. At the same time, we should promote and develop the costumes across regions according to the current situation of clothing in our country to revitalize the traditional Tibetan costume. |
