Le Clézio, the winner of Nobel Prize for Literature of2008, is granted as thethree stars of France with Patrick Modiano and George Perec. In1994, he was alsoconsidered as one of the greatest French living writers of the world by readers of aFrench literary review magazine Reading. As the Nobel Prize for literature award ofwords, he is great because he is "a humanistic explorer beneath the mainstreamcivilization”. His creations, on the one hand, ruthlessly ridicule, expose and criticizethe greed of modern industrial civilization, as well as modern human indifference. Onthe other hand, his creations are always in the pursuit of the harmonious relationshipbetween the nature and human being, praying a poetic ecological balance.Based on Le Clézio’s works, this paper analyzes his ecological thought,expounds the meaning of his ecological utopia, and traces his utopian thought. Finally,this paper reveals that Le Clézio’s ecological utopia is a bright wish which inspirespeople, but it will never realize in the end.This paper is divided into three chapters. In the first chapter, the author mainlyunearths Le Clézio’s ecological thoughts. Through themes analysis of the flee andalienation in The Interrogation and War, as well as the ecological elements embodiesin The African and Desert, this chapter clarifies Le Clézio’s ecological thoughts in hisworks, which are the critical awareness of science and technology, as well asecological aesthetic consciousness. The second chapter focuses on the connotativemeaning of Le Clézio’s ecological utopia. Le Clézio depicts a blueprint in details inOurania,which is one part of his ecological utopia. Besides, Le Clézio’s inherentmeaning of ecological utopia which is embodied in his poetic words in his writingsand his value to lost civilization. The third chapter mainly discusses the developmentof Le Clézio’s utopia thoughts and predicts the ending of his ecological utopia. Fromthe failure religious utopia attempt in Wandering Stars to the ecological utopianexperience which is back to the nature in Onitsha, this chapter traces Le Clézio’sconstant utopia pursuits and reveals the tragic ending of his ecological utopia.
