In Chinese contemporary literature, there are tow upsurges of describing the history of the revolution.One is the Yan’an Literature and Liberated Literature which appears before the founding of the nation,and"Red Classics" that expressing the grand narrative of the state, nation and society; another one appears inthe late eighties to the nineties which is called "New Historical Novel". Both of them have wrote the sameperiod of the revolutionary history,but showing a completely different appearance. This thesis attempts tobegin with the violence narrative of New Historical Novel, using research methods like comparativeanalysis, text analysis, narrative analysis to expand the narrative. On the one hand, pointing out the newhistorical novel’s re-discovery of revolutionary history and the reduction of the truce, On the other hand,analyzing the intentionally avoiding of the revolutionary history. Thus to make a value judgment of the newhistorical novel’s view of the revolutionary history. At the same time, evaluating the Chinese contemporaryliterature’s writing of the revolutionary history from a macro, pointing out its biased and inadequate.This thesis is divided into four chapters:The first chapter parsing related concepts. Make a definition of the concept of "new historical novel",analyzing its characteristics, in order to determine the scope of the choice of new historical novel;explaining the meaning of revolution and violence, analyzing the relationship between revolution andviolence.The second chapter analyzing the depiction of violence appeared in New Historical Novel, dividedinto four sections, which are "unlimited expansion of the property Desire","mad chase for power,""sexualviolence" and " the carnival of primitive vitality ", specifically addressed presentation of revolutionaryviolence of new historical novel.The third chapter sorting the context of the changing of the depiction of violence by comparing theNew Historical Novel and Revolutionary Historical Novel. First, starting with the changing of the contextof age, pointing out that from the Revolutionary Historical Novel to New Historical Novel, it hasexperienced the change from "revolutionary" time to "post-revolutionary" era, then elaborating thedifferences between them from tow aspects of narrative strategy and narrative effect. Chapter IV is "reduction and avoidance", on the one hand, New Historical Novel has build a real,humanity history, on the other hand, it also spared no effort to deny the "HISTORY" and the legitimacy ofthe revolution. Finally, the thesis points out, that actually New Historical Novel has used the same way ofnarrative with the Revolutionary Historical Novel, building an equally incomplete and radical history. Andthe entire history of Chinese modern literature is also considered, pointing out that a dualism, extreme wayof thinking is existed which is widespread among the writers.
