Wang Zengqi was a writer who had distinctive temperament, and was difficult to classify in ChineseModern and Contemporary literature history. Wang worte nearly140short novels in his whole writingcareer, through the analysis of these novels, there was a quite important cultural phenomenon what was therewrites of novles to be found. The rewrites of Wang Zengqi’s novels not only rewrited the novels’ plots andthemes, but also rewrited the cultural spirit in the novels. He wanted to look for the fit point from Chineseand Western culture, traditional and modern culture through the rewrites of novels, so the barrier betweenthe Chinese and Western literature, or the barrier between traditional and modern literature could be brokenthrough, the convergence of cultural could be coming at last. In addition, Wang used a variety of differentwriting elements to reconstruct the world of the novels’ cultural spirit. He had an attitude in living folk, andhoped a cultural concept around “harmony” that was created.The whole thesis is divided into three chapters. The first chapter by the combing of Wang Zengqi’srough life experience and his novel writing, analyzing of his aesthetic ideal and the contact with his teacher,discusses the reason why Wang want to rewrite novels. In the second chapter, we analyze the novel textsspecifically, for example about the rewrite of Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio, Revenge, Temple andMonks and Special Gifts, interpret the purpose of the novels rewriting. Chapter three is discussing thecultural meaning of the novels. Through the behavior of rewriting, Wang’s novels reach the doubleconvergence of cultural in Chinese and Western culture, traditional Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism andmodern culture. In addition, the three-tier cultural reconstruct in the aspect of negating great and illusorytheme, negating reclusive theme, and negating returning the folk life. These three chapters step by step, atheotetical system of researching Wang Zengi’s novels rewriting is carefully and profoundly expounded.
