Latin American Cinema is a rare studied field in China. This article as an attempt to fill the blank is choosing "the obscured identity" as a thread to present and explore the specialties of Latin American Cinema. The first obscured identity is Latin American Cinema itself, which is ignored due to the powerful western culture. The article combs the brief history of Latin American Cinema, and presents the rising progress of it as a whole nation. Besides these, analyses a represented film El Viaje to show the forge of continental identity. The second obscured identity is the "disappeared" who were arrested, tortured or murdered secretly by the military juntas in Latin America, especially during the1970s. The Chilean director Patricio Guzman is a typical filmmaker who insists tracing that history and writing the memories for the victims. The third obscured identity is the Indian peoples who are the original master of this continent. They are framed by western countries, indigenous intellectuals and themselves, which results different images of them in the films. And the indigenous videos made by themselves show the efforts for decolonization both in technologies and in soul.Unfolding the veils from outside to inside, from collectives to individuals, from apparently to potentially, is not only for presenting the multi-culture of the globe, but also showing the struggles by Latin American filmmakers under the unequal power structures to gain their dignities and explore another possibility of the world.
