Todd’s Music Image Of Sweeney Todd

This thesis comprehensively analyzes the music part of Todd’s image who is the key character in Sweeney Todd, tries to dig various methods and impressive expression of musician Stephen Sondheim utilized to describe dramatic character, and attempts to utilize composition techniques into music dramas of Voyage Diary and Calabash Brothers. Through verification from the performance, forms the personalized music language, and rightly holds the music which is the fundamental medium of music drama, to provide better service for drama.This thesis is divided into three chapters.Chapter1briefly describes the whole music drama Sweeney Todd and the musician. Chapter2comprehensively investigates the music part of Todd’s image which is the key character in Sweeney Todd from style and dramatic action in3sections. Firstly analyzes how to reflect the drama style in characterization. And then investigates Todd’s image expression in music from the major2action lines of Todd’s revenge line and Todd’s emotion line respectively. Chapter3comprehensively introduces how utilize the composition techniques to reflect the dramatic function of music in music drama of Voyage Diary and Calabash Brothers.Through application of research findings, it is expected to provide the inspiration and reference for the creation of music drama staff.
