This report describes the English-Chinese translation practice of the selected partsof Nine Great American Myths: Ways We Confuse the American Dream with theChristian Faith. This report analyzes the problems existing in the translation practiceand offers some solutions and strategies. This report consists of five parts: introduction, pre-translation preparation, proofreading, case analysis and conclusion. The main parts are “pre-translationpreparation” and “case analysis”.“Pre-translation preparation” part is divided into fivesmall parts: text analysis, special terms, and the analysis of the key and difficult pointsin translation, main translation tools. This lays a solid foundation for the translationpractice.“Case analysis” analyzes three kinds of translation cases, which includes longsentence translation, translation of culture-loaded expressions and translation ofunfamiliar text with the application of “parallel texts”.According to the analysis of some cases in this report, some conclusions can bereached as follows. Firstly, translation is usually involved with two languages, so a goodcommand of two languages is of great importance. Long sentence is a very difficult partin the translation. The solution to it is to keep its meaning and pay less attention to itsform. Secondly, translation is not just an interlingual activity but an intercultural activity.Culture-loaded Expressions or words in the text will be translated with the strategy offoreignization and annotations. At last,“parallel texts”, which here refers to any textclosely related to the original text, is very important in the process of translation andwill help the translator to understand the source text more accurately.
