The author’s translation task is an excerpt from Eric Brende’s novel: Better Off.Eric Brende flipped the switch on technology. He and his wife, Mary, ditched their car,electric stove, refrigerator, running water, and everything else motorized or “hooked tothe grid”, and spent eighteen months living in a remote community so primitive in itstechnology that even the Amish consider it antiquated.The author has adapted a passage of10,000words from the novel as hertranslation task. In the process of translation, the author adheres to the languageprinciple of equivalence from Nida, and adopts the translation techniques like “addingwords” and “reducing words”. In the meantime, the author looks up relevant referencebook, adopts suggestions from supervisor, and makes full use of Internet. Afterfinishing translating, the author wrote a report. In the process of writing the translationreport, the author reviewed the translation process, analyzed difficulties, such as theprofessional words of the region, and specific religious words and then on the basis ofbeing loyal to the original text, the author dealt with the translation properly with thehelp of translation theory and translation techniques.
