Collocation is one of the most significant fields in the research of corpus linguistics; it has been the central focus in researchers. It has guiding significance because the research is based on real data. A corpus-based study on the collocation has gradually increased in recent years. Colligation is the collocation relationship in the level of grammar, it is the co-occurrence of word class and grammar class. Study on colligation has also attracted the attention of researchers. ESP (English for specific purposes) has become one of the most important fields in English language. Agricultural English is a significant branch in EST. However research on the collocation and colligation in ESP is not too much. Study on the collocation and colligation of ESP English can help teachers and students especially in academic writing and translation. Therefore, the study on the collocation and colligation in agricultural science and technology English has great significance. This study is based on the corpus built by the writer on agricultural science and technology English.Firstly, the writer selected agricultural Journal European Journal of Agronomy as the corpus collection carrier and randomly selected100agricultural science and technology academic articles from the journal. Using the "keyword list" function in software Antconc3.4.2, the writer identified the research object of the study:Yield, Crop, Soil and Plant, the author respectively examined their concordance lines, MI values, collocates and semantic patterns. After a detailed qualitative and quantitative analysis, the author conducted semantic analysis of the four words in agricultural science and technology English and summarized their collocation characteristics, which laid a foundation for further research in this field.Through analysis and discussion, on the basis of revealing the collocation features of keywords in agricultural science and technology English, this paper summarized the difficulties and overcoming methods in learning process:in the study of language, we should not only consider the common features of language, but also note the influence of different register on semantic. In the process of learning agricultural science and technology English, we need to learn the method of grasping the keywords through the study of collocation, which includes:(1) In the process of learning science and technology English, we need to prepare enough of the key words, namely having a profound and comprehensive understanding of the keyword itself.(2) Summarize the collocation structure features of key words through phrase combination.(3) Analyze the semantic meaning of phrase combinations. Language teaching should pay attention to the systematical collocation teaching method. This study directs teachers focusing the lexical teaching on the study of simple nominal phrase and complex nominal phrases related with key words. In scientific papers learning and writing, it is necessary to establish the method of using corpus software to help collocation learning. Although learning keywords well is a difficult problem in EST acquisition, there are some principles and specific rules in the usage and characteristics of keywords.
