Abstract：As the core of the third generation of central collective leadership of the partyand state, Jiang Zemin put forward the important thought of "Three Represents" duringhis tenure. It summarizes all the theoretical and practical activities of the party and thecountry, including all the work of fundamental direction, fundamental principles andfundamental basis, which becoming the action guidance of the party and state to guidethe great march in the new century. In Nov.2003, the Party Central Committee made abig decision to edit and publish The Selected works of Jiang Zemin. The publication anddistribution of it is a great event in the party and the country’s political life, and also agreat event in the process of the evolution of the sinicization of marxism, which hasgreat realistic significance and far-reaching historical significance. This work records203pieces of Jiang Zemin’ representative and original works from Aug.1980to Sep.2004, including reports, speeches, talks, articles, letters, instructions, commands,inscription.In this thesis, there are6chapters to discuss the situation of application ofdemonstrative words in The Selected works of Jiang Zemin. The first chapter simplymakes a clear statement of the purpose and significance for studying the usage ofdemonstrative words in the work. The second chapter summarizes the research situationfor the demonstrative words at home and abroad and the situation and significance ofthe research content in the work. The third chapter summarizes the relationship betweenthe demonstrative words and context in The Selected works of Jiang Zemin through thesituation of application of the words in it. The fourth chapter analyses the types andcharacteristics of demonstrative words in the work. The fifth chapter analyses therealization of the function of the demonstrative words in it. And in the last chapter, it summarizes the application of “this” and “that” in the great work by analyzing thegrammatical structure of demonstrative words in The Selected works of Jiang Zemin.
