Sui and Tang dynasties ended the separatist unrest situation of the Southern andNorthern Dynasties, creating flourishing scenes: political stability, economicdevelopment, and cultural prosperity. Sui and Tang dynasties, the golden age of ancientChinese poetry, are the most prosperous period in Chinese history. During this period,frontier poetry is flourished.Vast ancient northeast border areas are inhabited by many ethnic minorities whocommunicate and also trigger wars with the Han nationality. Northeast Frontier Poetryin the Sui and Tang dynasties actually describes this complicated relationship.This paper mainly focuses on the north region like Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning,Hebei province, and the northeast of eastern Inner Mongolia to research the northeastfrontier fortress poems, and study on the ideological contents, artistic features andcauses of the feat theme, martial theme, sorrow and mourning war theme. Theintroduction explains the concept of the frontier poetry, and the research status of thefrontier poetry and the northeast frontier poetry. The first part mainly analyses theideological contents of the emperors’ northeast frontier poetry and the scholars’northeast frontier poetry, drawing the conclusion that the feat theme is characterized bygreat and noble temperament and adopting “monarch”“ace” artistic features. Thesecond part describes the border nationalities and ranger heroes in the northeast frontierpoetry, and also uses energetic and bold language and line drawing techniques to discussthe artistic characteristics. The third part begins with the boudoir grief and sorrowhomesickness, and explains the time imagery and space imagery from the aspects offlowers and letters separately. In order to express the miserable sentimental feelings bythe bitter cold situations and express the tragic spirit by the survival dilemma, the fourthpart mainly introduces the bitter lives of the ordinary solders and frontier settlers andthe explorer and irony of the keep generals’ life.
