Numerous studies have shown that as a stressful event, marital conflicts wereassociated with a range of children’s adjustment diiffculties,including extenralizingproblems (e.g. aggression, impulsiveness),internalizing problems (e.g. depression,anxiety) and other forms of maladjustment e.g. peer conflict, poor academicperformance). However, researchers and theoirsts have not reached an agreement onhow marital conflicts influences children’s psychological adjustment.This study was divided into two parts, and the first part was to mainly explorethe relationships between marital conflicts and children’s psychological adjustment,and the role of child’rens perception, efforttfil control and coping strategy from theperspective of child’rens study. From the city of Shanghai, grade4th, grade6th andgrade8th students and their parents participated in this study.The second part focused the effect of parenting between marital conflict andchildren’s adjustment from the perspective of parents’ study. From the city ofNthhantong, grade4tto grade6students and their parents participated in this study.The relationship of marital conflict, the mechanism and children’s adjustmentwas studied,we found:1.Both marital conflicts by parents reporting and childre’ns perception ofmarital conflict frequency, intensity and content all positively predicted’childrens loneliness and depression, b’ut negatively predicted childrensself-esteem.2.Both marital conlficts by parents reporting and children’s perception ofmarital conflict positively predicted children’s adjustment, and the directeffects were0.19and0.48.3.Children’s perception of marital conflict partially medicated the associationsbetween marital conflicts and children’s psychological adjustment, and theproportion is63%.4.Effortful control partially medicated the associations between marital’conflicts and childrens psychological adjustment, and the proportion is14%.5.Coping strategy fully medicated the associations between marital conflictsand children’s psychological adjustment.6.Parenting partially medicated the associations between marital conflicts andchildren’s psychological adjustment, and the proportion is32%.
