In The First Half Of The20th Century Foreigners Musical Activity In Tianjin

After Tianjin was forced to open up in modern times, an increasing number of foreigners hold a series of music activities in Tianjin, which has become an important part of development of Tianjin music. The first half of the20th century is an important historical period for the development of music. This paper provided an objective analysis and evaluation of research related to music activities held by foreigners in Tianjin in this special period, including music education, performance and its daily music activities.The thesis was composed of three chapters:The first chapter introduced music education activities held by foreigners in Tianjin, including music education activities in schools founded by foreigners, music education activities organized by foreigners in public and private schools in China. The influences of music education activities organized by foreigners were presented in this chapter as well. The second chapter introduced music performance organized by foreigners in Tianjin, including troupe of foreign musicians, joint concert by both Chinese and foreign musicians. Then, the impacts of performing activities held by foreign musicians were described.The third chapter introduced the daily music activities of foreigners in Tianjin. These activities are music life in cultural entertainment and music life in the church, including the phonograph, the radio, the movie soundtrack and other music life. At last, this chapter analyzed the effects of daily music organized by foreigners in Tianjin.
