The Reconstruction Of Traditional Folk In The Context Of Urbanization

The West Town God’s Temple of Sanlin Town in Shanghai Pudong hasorganized "Town God Cruise" ceremony several times in the history.However, after the national liberation the West Town God’s Temple wasabandoned,"Town God Cruise" ceremony was also interrupted. In2005,local believers rebuilt the West Town God’s Temple, and organized "TownGod Cruise" ceremony for the first time in2010, so far it has been held sixtimes. This ceremony was reconstruct in the new social background,compared with the previous ceremony, it shows great changes.This paper puts the "Town God Cruise" ceremony of the West Town God’sTemple of Sanlin Town in Shanghai Pudong as the investigation object,through the method of interview and observation, shows out the process ofhow it was reconstruct in the context of the new social background, and findout the reasons on economy and culture.This paper is divided into six chapters: Chapter one mainly Summarizesthe previous research findings related to this article; chapter two describesthe beliefs of Town God in Sanlin town, showing the history of the rise and fallof the West Town God’s Temple, in particular, the "Town God Cruise"ceremony’s form in the history; Chapter three describes the socialbackground of why the "Town God Cruise" was interrupted, and outlines thebeliefs of Town God after the interrupt; Chapter four shows out thereconstruction process of the "Town God Cruise" ceremony, including theinitiator and participants, organization, funding source, ceremony program,and then analyzes it the context of urbanization, development of ancient town,influence of protection policies of the intangible cultural heritage and so on, inorder to complete a detailed show its reconstruction process; Chapter fiveoutlines the current situation of "Town God Cruise" ceremony afterreconstruction, mainly including its current difficulties, combined with theefforts made by the organizers of the ceremony, predicts its future strategiesand trends; last chapter is the conclusion, mainly talks about the socialbenefit related to the reconstruction of traditional beliefs ceremonies.Through research and analysis of the chapters above, the conclusions can be summarized as follows:1. The reconstruction of the traditional beliefceremony has great significance to community culture reconstruction underthe background of urbanization.2. Traditional belief ceremony has function ofshowing faith and culture.3. The traditional belief ceremony is graduallybecoming a kind of local cultural heritage, to become the support of economicdevelopment.
