At the turn of the century, facing theordeal of reality to human nature, Conrad contributes a series of humannature exploration works that work with far-reaching significance. Heartof Darkness is the most famed jungle novel of Conrad. This thesis firstlyfocuses on the amphibiotic nature of post-colonialism and reveals theamphibiotic nature of post-colonialism in Heart of Darkness, whichhopes to broaden the study scope of Heart of Darkness. Meanwhile,based on the two core theories of post-colonialism “Orientalism†and “theOther†of Edward Said, this thesis intends to profoundly reveal thereflections of “Orientalism†and “the Other†in Heart of Darkness. Lastly,the thesis concentrates on the cultural confrontations and cultural identityin post-colonialism, exploring further cultural connotation of Heart ofDarkness and making the readers identify Heart of Darkness and Conradfrom a new perspective, and then the more profound connotation of Heartof Darkness is revealed. Based on the analysis from the post-colonialismperspective, this thesis advocates a turn of attention from the broadmasses of the people to the marginalized vulnerable group in the modernsociety and the new order construction in present international politics,economy, and culture, aiming at the provision of some righteous andintegrated energy to present society and even the whole world and advocating the construction of harmonious society and even theharmonious world. |
