Abstract/Summary:
As China’s economy and exchanges with the world have seen rapid growth, therehas also been a sharp increase in the world’s demands for Chinese learning. Since2004, China began its own exploration through establishing non-profit publicinstitutions which aim to promote Chinese language and culture in foreign countries.These years, Confucius Institute has been developing into a place for both learningChinese languages but also getting to know Chinese culture,The researcher works in an institute based on University of San Francisco ofQuito. Since its founding, it has many Chinese learners with different ages and careerbackground. However, there are still some problems such as ineffective teaching andloss of students. Aiming at improving teaching, it is important to know the needs ofthe students and analysis it.The research is based on the needs analysis of Huchinson and Waters, andcombined with some domestic scholar’s related research and actual teachingexperience. With observational survey, interview survey and questionnaire survey,this research made a further exploration of potential learning needs of chineselearners in this institute. It makes some related suggestions to the facing problemsfrom three aspects: the institute, the teachers and the students.
