Lawrence and Camus have no intersection in life, and completely differentdominant idea and style in writing, so few people compare their works critically. Asfar as compare the two short stories of Lawrence’s The Woman Who Rode Away andCamus’ Adulterous Wife, both them have many similarities. The first similar point ofthem is their plot arrangement, which is based on the departure of the heroine as themain clue. Secondly, the two works have full-bodied amorous feelings, ethnic culture,and the heroine’s yearning for spiritual freedom also struck a sympathetic responsewith present society. Moreover, the two works narrated in the view of the heroine,observed life, the relationship between people and society, as well as sexual relations.Therefore,the paper compares the two work from the view of following aspects.The first part, from the Angle of ecologism, analysis on the relations of diseaseand literature under their background and experience. In their works, ecologicalelements are indispensable. Their crush on nature even evokes their own complex onLaurence’s Rananim Complex and Camus’ complex in Mediterranean. Furthermore,Lawrence and Camus had the similar experience of infecting with tuberculosis, suchexperiences is bound to be reflected in their respective works, so it is necessary tocompare their works in the aspect of relations on literature and disease.The second part, from the perspective of the humanitarian, analyzes Camus andLawrence’s works for ultimate concern on humanity. With the deepening process ofindustrialization level, people inevitably pay more attention to money and materialsrather than the spiritual world and humanity. While, Lawrence and Camus wasappealing to people to concern humanity and people’s value and dignity.The third part analyzes the existentialism philosophy thought in the novel fromthe aspect of their seeking for spiritual freedom and the existence of absurdity inheroine’s life.
