Formation time of the abstract art are not synchronized in China and Western, soas the growth and culture, hence the abstract art in China began to have a broadtransplantation and present Oriental style and color. This paper points out the culturaldemand and limitation behind the conversion by analyzing the conversion, andproposes that the most important thing with the conversion is the assimilation of ourown abstract spirit.Firstly, this paper reviews the traits and limitations of Western abstract art, andthe development of abstract art in contemporary China, and then combines with theworks and related exhibitions. It points out that the abstract art in contemporary Chinahas native expressions, for instance, the Maximalism. On this basis, the paper analyzsthe cultural demands with the globalization context, discusses the superficialprosperity, misunderstandings, and capital operation which caused art works floodedwith Chinese symbols under the conversion. Finally, this paper gives some advicesunder the multicultural background on the development of China·s abstract art.The paper argues that after nearly thirty years, abstract art in China has showndiverse development situations, and changed approaches under the name of "AstractArt", which involves Chinese cultural symbols now and again. This is not onlyreflected in the change of abstract forms and aesthetic spirit of the works, but also inthe theoretical construction under traditional aesthetics, such as Chinese Maximalism.Maximalism works shows a "complex" exterior and the nihilism inside, which has anegative empty tendency because of the market and cultural accumulation; thenaming of the theory is also too broad and vague, which ignored the reality.Basically, the conversion comes from the cultural identification under the context ofglobalization. The prosperity of China·s abstract art is just superficial; it is stillalienated with the public acceptance and the market, accompanied with a lot ofmisunderstanding and faced with Chinese symbols under capital operation. Under thebackground of multi-culture, the Chinese abstract artists should have a clear andcomprehensive understanding on the connotation of abstract art, and more important,we should strengthen the cognition of abstract spirit through our own art tradition.Only in this way can we find the most primitive life experience and the abstractimpulse to produce good works and then form a truly shared artistic methodology.
