Since ShiXu Chen joined the literary world, his short story covered the localconditions and the customs of rural land, also we can see the descriptions of theModern intellectual’s life in the city from his book. Rather than those descriptions, hisstories retrospect the vicissitudes of the turmoil past and dark days and prospect theage of reform spirit for the future.In Chen’s short story, we see the objects of localfarmers, county residents and city intellectuals. In his compositions, he discussed thespecial local customs and beautiful scenery of GanZhou city and BoYang lake area,but most importantly, we see those intellectuals that how they pursuit their spiritbelongings. Under the structure of two different literary model--focused model andradiant-model, Chen set up many deeply rooted characteristics among us. Chen’scompositions concerns and describe the social life in different phases, so the criticswould call him “The secretary of era”.His short story can be categorized into threedifferent time: The “Culture revolution” time, the70thto the reform and open time,and the80thto the society transition time.In his story, there are many comprehensivedescriptions of Chinese political reform, culture revolution and the situation oftransitional period and current time of China.As the stories written by ShiXu Chen, onone hand, it rethought about China history. On the other hand, it recorded Chinesedevelopment and future attention.This paper has three purposes as following. Authors will analysis it from theoverall compositions of Chen’s story.The first part discussed the object of “Culturalrevolution” in the countryside at a special time in China; it analyzed the descriptionand retrospection from Chen’s short story. We can also feel the beauty of naturalscenery and folk customs from Chen’s compositions when he describes the GanZhoucity and Boyang Lake area.The second part uses the different serial compositions asan object, it analyses the intellectuals realistic situation, value pursuit, and spiritbelongings. Author wanted the intellectuals to be more response and humanistic careof our world.The last part represents the artistic characteristics among Chen’s short stories. It includes his realistic creation methodology, the using of reference for therealism and romanticism, the short story structure of focused model and radiant-model,and the simple and concise language style.
