Xia Junna, who became a professional painter in1995, is one of the youngest, most talented and eye-catching oil painters of the new generation, although there’resome artists who disagree with her works, saying the Xia phenomenon is nothing butcommercial speculation or she’s merely imitating the great masters. After reading avariety of relevant studies, based on Xia’s painting works, the author tries to analyze herunique artistic appeal and find the reason of Xia’s phenomenon so as to serve as a guideand reference for fine art lovers as well as the author herself on their way to the artpalace.Xia Junna’s works are poetic, magic and mysterious. Her paintings not only havea self-account feature—like most female art works do—but have a highly individualizedlanguage system. She takes some essence from the western masters, and incorporatesher own painting language into her works. Xia, with excellent cultural understanding, isgood at presenting in her paintings the Chinese classical culture through French-styledtechniques, a successful combination of western oil painting and Chinese art. Xia hasinherited the traditional Chinese culture and has created an oil painting style withnational characteristics which in turn promotes China’s oil painting development.Xia Junna is a bright star in China’s contemporary oil painting circle. Her workshave a profound influence on China’s fine art circle, which is the inevitable result of herhardworking attitude towards art and which in turn will influence her subsequent artcareer. Based on this point of view, the author is trying to do a research on Xia Junna’sartistic style.
