A Report On C-E Translation Of Research Article Abstracts For Architecture Major

This C-E translation report is based on the abstract translation of Masters’ andDoctors’ dissertations with the source text of nearly60000words for School ofArchitecture and Urban Planning, Chongqing University.Abstract is the necessary part of an academic paper and the major tool to show theresearch or search the relevant fields for researchers. Abstract affects whether the paperis published and searched or not, and is used to attract readers and help readers ascertainthe paper’s purpose quickly. For it is one of non-literary translation, abstract translationshould meet the requirements of technical translation.On the basis of “truthfulness”, this report mainly discusses how to translate theresearch article abstracts in architecture. The report consists of four parts as follows:Chapter1is the introduction of translation project, including its background, nature,objectives and requirements. Chapter2describes the process of translation, includingthe preparation and the main process. Chapter3discusses the obstacles hampering thetranslation and the translation methods under the guidance of text category andcommunicative translation. There are many translation obstacles, such as the headline,Chinese Phrases, names of companies, quotations, sentence combining differencesbetween the Chinese language and the English language as well as the professionaloriginal. What’s more, the author tries to use some translation methods. Then, based onthe insights gained from this translation practice, the author tries to draw some attemptable conclusions: the network resources, the reinvention of sentence structuresand text cohesion. Chapter4summarizes the translation, such as the unsolved problemsand what the author has learned during the translation.
