There is close relationship between politics and religions.And they interact witheach other.Buddhism is also the same.The Buddhist thought of protecting country isput forward,which provides the basic thought for the spreading of the Buddhism.TheBuddhist thought of protecting country not only required protecting the country,butalso demand the people to protect the world of thusness in their hearts.So theBuddhist thought of protecting country was not only useful to the secular society,butalso useful to the spiritual world.And we can say that it is the dialectical unity ofthem.Humane King Sutra,Golden Light Sutra and Lotus Sutra were known as threeprotecting country sutra.And there are so many interpretations from the Monks in thehistory.Though the form of their interpretations were the same,the characteristic ofthem were different as their sects were not the same.Yuance who was the disciple ofXuanzang in Tang Dynasty stood at Cittamatra,and his interpretation of Humane KingSutra also quoted the books of Vijnaptimātratā School.In order to explore the contentof the protecting country thought of Humane King Sutra, Yuance’s interpretation ofHumane King Sutra was the main line in this paper.Generally speaking,the Buddhist thought of protecting country has a longhistory.And with the development of the process of the sinicization of Buddhism, ithas its advantages and disadvantages to the politics,the society and theindividual.However, we should choose a right attitude to the Buddhist thought ofprotecting country for the development of today’s buddhist.We should make use ofthe Hannya which was the core of the Humane King Sutra in our dailylife,contributing to the personal cultivation,to the development of Buddhism and theprogress of society.
