With the increasingly frequent international exchanges and cultural exchanges,a growing number of excellent British and American TV series and movies wereintroduced into China. Demand for subtitling and its quality pose enormous challengesto subtitle translators. Audiovisual Translation as an emerging field has attracted moreand more attention in translation and academic circles in recent years. Scholars beganto explore the strategies and methods of subtitling by using various theories forreference. On this account, this paper chose the controversial subtitling of the sci-fiPacific Rim (2013) as the starting point. Under the framework of Gadamer’sHermeneutics, the paper analyzes the subtitling of Pacific Rim done by Jia Xiuyanwith the method of theoretical analysis and case study and summarizes thecharacteristics of Jia’s subtitling for subtitle learners’ and translators’ learning andreference.
