With the economic globalization, the enterprise’s publicity material has become more important ineconomic activities, and the translation of these materials has been the common tasks in translation practice.This thesis is based on the Chinese-English translation project of the publicity album commissioned byJinchuan Group Co., Ltd. with21,723Chinese characters and the time limit (14days). A pair (including theauthor and his peer) was set up to perform this task. By analyzing the purpose and function of the translationprocess and specific cases, the thesis explores two aspects in small-scale translation projects of such materials:how to ensure the quality and efficiency of the project with scientific and proper translation strategies, that is,based on Newmark’s tranlslation theories on text types and the German Functionalist Theory, the author mainlyadopts the translation strategies of Newmark’s semantic translation and communicative translation; how to makeup for the differences on content, structure, cultural norm and rhetorical style of Chinese and English textsduring the translation process, and achieve the precision, communicative goals of the applicable text with textanalysis and functionalist approaches.While in the translation project, initially, the author analyzes the purpose and function of the source text,conducts text analysis, and then makes the personnel arrangements and designs the translation process with hispeer, according to the features of the project. During the translation process, the pair focuses on the generalcomprehension and detection of the source text, and the author mainly adopts some translation skills likedeletion, supplementation and omission, as well as division and integration of sentences when translating, toensure the accuracy and fluency of the target text. During the translation, the pair maintain good communicationwith each other, report the translation progress to the customer timely, point out certain ambiguous expressionsin the translation and provide solutions for the customer’s selection.As the thesis reveals, a professional translator should have a comprehensive understanding of thetranslation project, pay great attention to every aspect, so as to accomplish the task with high standards with acomprehensive view of the purpose, function and text type of the translation, the representation of the original,the safeguarding of the customer’s interests and the satisfaction of readers.It is hoped that this thesis could offer some referential value for the translation of the enterprise’s publicitymaterial with similar types, and particularly for the implementation by small-scale translation projects.
