Expressionism is a main stream of the modernism painting and its major origin isfrom Germany. which is decided by social reality and local factor in Germany,reflecting the sensitive intellectuals’ psychic fear and solitude at that moment duringthe process of the social abnormal development. Germany Expressionism paysattention to the expression of personality and intense emotion, being opposed toobjective mimicry and trying hard to break traditional ties in terms of contents. Itemphasizes on simple abstraction and harmonious sentiments with strong symbolmeanings and sarcastic compositions in respect of styles.This article carries on the thorough analysis from the four parts of the art form ofGerman expressionism art. The first part discusses background of the GermanExpressionism and, elucidates the formation reason of its formation. The second partfocuses on the pioneer artists of German Expressionism. The third part describesthe characteristics of color and the German Expressionism further explains theoutstanding personality, exaggerative styles and harmonious and lyric art rules. Thefourth part details the tension of brushwork in the German Expressionism. thebrushwork represents the painter’s personality and the role in the picture. The fifthpart is the influence of German Expressionism on China.
