This report is a reflective report based on the translation of three chapters of TheAutobiography of an Ex-Colored written by James Weldon Johnson, who was born in1871. James was an excellent American author, poet, journalist, critic, lawyer,educator, politician, diplomat and early civil rights activist, who had played apredominant role in the Harlem Renaissance during the1920s.The reflective report mainly consists of five parts. The first part (Introduction) isa brief introduction to the source text and the translation report. The second part(Chapter One) is a description of the translation task, including its background andsome analysis of the original text. The third part (Chapter Two) is a review of thewhole translation process. It summarizes the translation process and introducesrelevant translation theories and principles applied in translation. The fourth part(Chapter Three) is the main part of the report. By giving specific examples in thesource text, it analyzes the major problems met in the translation process and theirmatching countermeasures. The fifth part (Conclusion) summarizes the translator’stranslation practice and the translation report, including the benefits gained during thewhole process and the striving direction in the future. The translator hopes this reportcan be of help for other translation learners and lovers who are willing to translateautobiographical fictions.
