This reflective report is based on the translation of one of the chapters fromThomas Hardy: The ‘Dream Country’ of His Fiction, a literary review monographwhich elaborates Thomas Hardy’s fictions in four aspects: Hardy’s “dream country”,“man and environment”,“man and woman”, and “man and society”.The report is divided into three chapters. Chapter One introduces the translationtask, describes some translation preparations, and then introduces the translationprocess and the translation theory and skills applied in the process. Chapter Two listssome problems that occurred in the translation process, which contains problems intranslating nouns, pronouns, and adjectives and introduces the solutions. ChapterThree presents some problems in translating subordinate clauses and long sentences,and also shows the resolution. After analyzing the problems and solutions, the authorsummarizes gains and deficiencies in this translation process, as well as thethought-provoking insights that the literary review gave her. The author hopes thatthis report can be helpful for the translation of such kind of source text in the future.
