Research On The Development Approaches Of Fengxiang’s Folk Art In New Times

With the folk art of Fengxiang area of Shaanxi Province as the object of study,the paper tries to explore its current state through its historical rudiment. The researchanalyzes local folk art’s characteristics, existence forms and value from various anglesusing research methods such as field visits and interviews, and makes a systematicresearch combining theories of fine arts and decoration.Folk artworks of Fengxiang area have their unique forms whose pattern, colorand structure are all affected by local history and culture. Western-fu area ofFengxiang has rich historical&cultural deposits, and the evolution of its folk art’scharacteristics resulted from national culture, economic growth and social systemrevolution, expressing people’s pursuit of the true, the good and the beautiful of reallife in different forms of society. In modern times, traditional folk arts, crafts andcustoms have been fading out of people’s life. The research aims to seek traditionalaesthetic elements and explore their development approaches and possibility to meetaesthetic needs in modern society.The paper positioned the research range in modern times and made an in-depthanalysis on folk artworks of Western-fu area from various aspects. First, itsummarized the natural conditions and humanistic factors deciding the characteristicsof Westrn-fu area’s folk art, and analyzed the developing and forming factors fromnatives’ characters, traditional dwelling&living styles and traditional aesthetics.Second, researchers visited Liuying Village, the museum and other relevant places inFengxiang for a filed study, interviewed folk artisans, explored data valuable for theresearch and got in-depth knowledge on ladle facial makeup, festival activityperformance, traditional marriage customs and Shaanxi opera art in the centralShaanxi plain, to study and interpret folk customs and culture through the interactionsof the distinctive folk customs and folk artworks. Meanwhile, a comparative analysiswas made on the characteristics of some objects collected. Third, the researchinterpreted the problem of “singleness” in the modern development of Western-fun’sfolk artworks. Finally, combining modern design concept and current aesthetic needs,the paper tried to apply folk aesthetic elements of Western-fu to modern design and explore recreation approaches for local folk art&culture by practice. The paper usesmany diagrams for analysis&demonstration, reflecting artworks’ characteristicsvisually.The research aims to make the folk art&culture of Western-fu area bevalued and combine folk-custom concept into modern design while popularizing folkart&culture traditions, to make the traditional fresh with new fashion and thus bebetter protected and inherited.
