Among Confucius Institutes around the world, the Confucius Institutes of Thailandhave experienced rapid development. They are a strong impetus to the spread ofChinese language and culture in Thailand, prompting "Chinese fever" continually heatup in Thailand, and they are the world’s classic mode in the development of theConfucius Institute. So it is necessary to study them systematically.Based on Lasswell’s communication theory and combined with theories ofintercultural communication and pedagogy, this paper clarified the communicationhistory of Chinese culture in Thailand, investigated the cultural communication of theConfucius Institutes in Thailand and made a case on the Confucius Institute of BetongMunicipality which located in the city known as "a little China Town". Based on theexperiences from the Confucius Institutes of Thailand, this paper offered valuableadvice to other countries and proposed solutions to the limitations of their developmentin order to achieve sustainable development of Confucius Institutes in Thailand.Through the research, this paper found that the reasons why culturalcommunication of Confucius Institutes in Thailand which has made some achievementsare the communication history of Chinese culture in Thailand for thousands of years andThailand has always had the tradition of admiration for Chinese culture. So ConfuciusInstitutes in Thailand need to spread Chinese culture with a strong heritage of its ownuniqueness, and spread deeper levels of excellent Chinese culture, with expectations ofThailand people, and not limited only to the surface of culture. Meanwhile, goodcultural exchanges have contributed to a good relation between China and Thailand, andthe friendly relationship between China and Thailand is regarded as a relation model byother countries. The research result also tells us that for the developmental strategy ofConfucius Institutes, we should pay more attention to the development of theneighboring countries in Southeast Asian and East Asian which has been deepinfluenced by Chinese Confucian culture, therefore the effect of communication will bemore significant. With consolidating cultural great-power status in Asia first, it ispossible for China to achieve the dream of becoming world’s great-power country inculture, and achieve real peaceful rising.
