| Zhou Yi ranks first in Chinese Five Classics. During the developing of Chinese Traditional Culture, not only do the explanation and comments of Zhou Yi become the basis of Ancient Chinese philosophy, but yi-ology has had a deep and lasting effect on every aspect of china ancient society, including politics, economy, science and technology, education, religion, ethic and so on. So we can say Chinese culture has been deeply imprinted with yi-ology.Zhou Yi is used to practise divination in the Western Zhou dynasty, but in Warring States Period Yi Zhuan develops into a classical work. The reason why Zhou Yi has a qualitative change and keeps its enduring vitality lies in its special symbol system——Yin and Yang, which has basic concept of ontology and can embrace everything. So about Zhou Yi consisting of hexagrams of symbols of Yin and Yang, each one thinks in his way. Because of that, the annotation of Zhou Yi is open, which is different from other classics. The openness of Zhou Yi’s annotation is found in two aspects. First, in different times, the annotation has different characteristics; second, in the same period, scholars annotate Zhou Yi from different perspective. The former shows that the annotation of Zhou Yi is apt at breaking through limitations of times, and the latter shows that Zhou Yi is versatile and has interactive relationship with society. In the history of the study of Zhou Yi, Yi-ology of the Northern Song Dynasty has the biggest influence on Chinese philosophy and is the main object of the study of Zhou Yi’s annotation, which is related to the openness of Zhou Yi’s annotation. Because of the openness, people find Zhou Yi useful in many ways, and so researchers from various fields pay attention to it.In terms of the background of times, Zhou Yi’s annotation has wider space in the Northern Song Dynasty than any other dynasty. First, in the Northern Song Dynasty, a period with internal and external problems, in order to revive Confucianism, solve social crisis, cope with the challenges of Buddhism and Taoism, scholars lay emphasis on its pragmatic utility and begin to carry on further research on Zhou Yi. Second, relatively loose politics and former scholars’research achievementsthe provide a more favorable social and historical conditions for the breakthrough.Specific point of view, philosophical connotations and image-numberology bring about the development of Yi-ology of the Northern Song Dynasty, and at the same time, that embodies its characteristic of openness. In particular, Zhou Yi’s annotation is not scholiastic but theoretical from the very beginning. In philosophical connotations we should study Yi-ology of Qingli, Wang Anshi, Si Maguang, Zhang Zai, Su Shi, Cheng Yi and Cheng Hao, and in image-numberology, we should study Yi-ology of Liu Mu, Zhou Dunyi and Shao Yong. However, in dictatorial system Zhou Yi’s annotation can’t break through the limitation of times. Through the study of Zhou Yi’s annotation of the Northern Song Dynasty, we can not only understand the openness of Zhou Yi’s annotation, but learn that the openness of annotation is related to times and class. With the development of times and society, the annotation of Yi-ology is also making a breakthrough and innovation. So the annotation of Yi-ology keeping pace with times has certain illuminations to us. |
