After the World WarⅡ, Japanese economy took off. Railway developed and became themost common public transport in Japan. It’s unique operational system which could beaccurate-to-the-minute did not only distinguish itself but also served as an external conditionfor the naissance of the〝Japanese travel mysteries〞.Back in the1970s, the World Expo held in Osaka brought along a remarkabledevelopment of Japan’s transportation and tourism. It’s right in this context that the Japanesetravel mysteries made a great progress and had known its golden age. Ever since this, in avery long time, the writers of the travel mysteries had always been on the top of the taxpayment list among the Japanese writers, which partly showed its popularity in Japan.Taken as the father of Japanese travel mysteries, kyoutarou Nishimura smartly but notless reasonably combined his rich knowledge of the railroad and various customs in Japan,created detective totsugawa series, which founded his important role in japanese travel seriesworld.But the prolific writer nishimura didn’t limit himself to this single form of literaryexpression. In his early stage, he had tried the classic〝fair play〞, whodunit mystery andsocial realistic mystery, etc, during this time, the detective series which assembled the famouscharacters created by the other authors was especially outstanding.This paper principally introduced the form of literary expression of the Japanese travelmystery, set as example the popular work in nishimura’s early period the detective series andhis representative work of travel mystery series, in order to analyze in typical the literaryvalue of nishimura’s mysteries, the characteristics and the shortages, also approached thereason why the travel mystery could have made such a huge success in Japan while it got amerely lukewarm reception in China. In the same time, as a new force that sprung up in thepostwar mystery fiction world, the Japanese travel mystery was hard to ignore with its uniqueJapanese social culture and their delicate ethos.
