Research On Xiong Shi Li’s "Ideology Only Doctrine"

Xiong-Shili is one of the founders of modern Confucian philosophy in China, who ishonored as “the outstanding person of contemporary Chinese philosophy”. Facing thebackground when Chinese traditional philosophy counters disruptive impact, he determinedto rebuild Confucian’s cosmology, ontology, epistemology and axiology. He mainly putforward “Only Doctrine” and “See Body”. Here “body” is “mind body” and “humanity body”,which can also be interpreted as the existence of life of ontology, the root of strong upwardpersevering lives and it is the Confucian moral ontology or entities. He set “Only Doctrine”as the objective and he affirmed the meaning and value of life existence, at the same time hewas seeking the” human nature” and “cosmic Ontology”. With a positive attitude towards life,he explicitly indicated the significance of life existence and he clearly showed that we shouldface the world with humanism to solve people’s vagueness and the puzzling situation ofethics loss.The first part of this article starts from combing the origin and development of “the theoryof substance and function”, trying to find the ins and outs of “the theory of substance andfunction”, and trying to find the intended meaning why XiongShili set DaeHee as principleand set “Only Doctrine” as the root of theories on substance function. The second part istrying to go for the idea that Only Doctrine’s aim is “Sageliness Within and KinglinessWithout” by analyzing the internal framework of XiongShiyi’s “Only Doctrine”. The thirdpart reassess the realistic significance of “Only Doctrine”, that is, how people can establishthemselves in society and how to make “Sageliness Within and Kingliness Without” byviewing the society’s politics, economy and culture.In short, XiongShili’s “Only Doctrine”, his Confucian philosophy continues, up to nowand is still regarded as the basis of the modern new Confucianism, e.g. setting up“foundation”, developing “Big use” and “keep holy inside” and “Be king outside”, which arestill the basic frame of mind of the modern Confucian philosophy.
