<Wen xin diao long> is an important work in the history of literary theory in ancient China. This work not only defines the nature of literature and summarizes the stylistic features of it, but also probes into the intrinsic law of literary creation. What’s more, every time it encounters a problem, this book would show a unique understanding, profound thinking and rich connotation. Taking all these into consideration, this masterpiece is worth of unceasing exploration and research by generations of“long xue”researchers.“zi ran”,which runs through the whole book of <wenxindiaolong>,is the ultimate aesthetic pursuit in Liu Xie’s thesis. From the very beginning of the work, <yuan dao>has set up the aesthetic standard of“zi ran zhi dao”、“dao zhi wen”, and then expanded the thinking from different perspectives, discussing the methods and strategies to reach the standard, thus putting forward requirements towards the creative subjects. This article is going to excavate Liu Xie’s literary view of nature and try to elaborate its different aspects about literary ideology of nature. The main body is divided into three chapters.ChapterⅠ. Taking Wei , Jin ,northern and southern dynasties as the social background, this part introduces the emergence and development of wei jin xuan xue and expounds the relationship between wei jin xuan xue and Liu Xie’s literary view of nature. This chapter can be further divided into two sections. Section one deals with the development of wei jin xuan xue and enumerates xuan xue researchers’typical opinions about nature. <Wen xin diao long> thus came into being as the background requires. Section two shows the fact that xuan xue devotes to the mutual complementation between Taoism and Confucianism, which characterizes Liu Xie’s literary view of nature. He ingeniously melt the Taoism and Confucianism together, forming his own unique literary view of nature that is different from the previous ones.ChapterⅡ.This part makes a thorough exploration towards Liu Xie’s literary view of nature. This chapter can be further divided into three sections. Section one summarizes the theoretical basis of nature view through the analysis of“wen zhi shu niu”.starting with the creating process , section two elaborates that essay writing should be a natural process from beginning to the end. Section three illustrates the relationship between“shu”and timing, between “shu”and creating psychology , namely, the relationship between artificiality and nature. As far as Liu Xie is concerned,“shu”is the prerequisite to accomplish a nature article, so it needs to be concretely mastered.ChapterⅢ. This part presents the appraisal of Liu Xie’s literary view of nature. Firstly, a comparison between Liu Xie’s literary view of nature and those of other theorists such as Cao Pi, Lu Ji and Zhong Rong in Wei and Jin dynasty is made, thus highlighting the feature of Liu Xie’s thought and insight-comprehensive, tactful, reasonable , and sensible. Finally, in terms of the way that the theoretical view is displayed, Liu Xie can always handle the opposite element, that is to say that he could find an appropriate compromise between two extremes. And this is the very connotation of Liu Xie’s way to display theoretic view of“wei wu zhe zhong”.
