| Folium Syringae, as a characteristic medicinal material in the northeast of China, possesses antibacterial and antiviral activity. The original plant of Folium Syringae includes Syringa oblata Lindl, S. vulgaris L., S. diatata Nakai and S. chinensis Willd.(Oleasceae).In this paper, four species of Folium Syringae were investigated on the character, microstructure and TLC. Further, the iridoid glycosides were separated from the bioassay-guided fractions of Folium Syringae, which inhibit the growth of bacteria significantly.1. The natural resource, chemical components, pharmacologic actions and clinical applications of Folium Syringae were summarized.2. This paper studied on the character, microstructure, TLC of four species of Folium Syringae.3. In order to definite the best habit and collection period of Folium Syringae, a HPLC method was established to determinate the content of dihydroxy benzoic acid in these samples.4. The active antibacterial fractions which were obtained by the method of Liu et al. were investigated on pharmacology.5. By microbiological methods such as inclined plane method and K-B, the active antibacterial fractions were traced. Moreover, the antibacterial activity of the isolated or synthetic components and the blood plasma containing the active fractions was evaluated. 6. Two iridoid glycosides were separated by macro resin column chromatography, repeated silica gel column chromatography, Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography and so on. They are identified as Syringopicroside A and Syringalactone B. |
