The Codonopsis Radix is selected to study the quality after stored by modified atmosphere storage and ozone treatments, for it is easiest to mildew and eat by moth during the period of storage. To measure temperature, relative humidity, the concentration of the oxygen gas in the group which we did package with air-regulating agent regularly, and the rate of infesting and mildew during the experiment course. To determined the character that Chinese pharmacopoeia of the people’s republic of China stipulated at the end of storage. Then the most effective measure will be found after finished the experiment. Based on this experiment, the most effective storage can be used widely by agricultural grass-root workers. The main findings are as following:1.Modified atmosphere storage of Codonopsis Radix is remarkable method that protect Codonopsis Radix from moth-eating, hold the quality and even extended storage time. It’s security, effective, economical, and easy to used to preserve Codonopsis Radix. From July to September, the temperature and relative humidity is the most suitable for growth and reproduction of moth. After completed the storage, The group of modified atmosphere storage didn’t suffer from mildewing and moth-eating, but all the group of storage without air-regulating agent nearly were eaten by moth, and it is found that the situation of moth-eating is proportional to moisture. The group of modified atmosphere storage has lower level oxygen content in five months, that less than five percent. The quality of the group of modified atmosphere storage are better than the group of storage without air-regulating agent. In addition, the moisture of the group of modified atmosphere storage is about sixteen percent, and the moisture of the group of storage without air-regulating agent is about fourteen percent. The method of modified atmosphere storage can maintain moisture effectively, and Codonopsis Radix which moisture is fifteen percent is fit to storage. The method of modified atmosphere storage can guarantee the quality of Codonopsis Radix more than one year.2.The method of ozone treatments can’t protect Codonopsis Radix from moth-eating effectively. The temperature and relative humidity is the most suitable for growth and reproduction of moth in the period of storage. After completed the storage, all the group of storage without vacuum storage bag nearly were eaten by moth, there are three hundred and twenty-two larva that is living, seven hundred and eighty-two adult that is dead, eight hundred and fifty-four larva that is dead, and one hundred and twenty pupa. The infesting rate of the group sealed by vacuum storage bag without ozone treatments and the group of storage with ozone treatments is from zero percent to twenty percent, there aren’t different between the infesting rate of the group sealed by vacuum storage bag without ozone treatments and the group of storage with ozone treatments. The vacuum storage bag can effectively prevent Codonopsis Radix from moth-eating, especially the moth that come from outsides. The groups of storage without vacuum storage bag contain twelve percent moisture, the groups sealed by vacuum storage bag without ozone treatments contain fifteen percent moisture, and the group of storage with ozone treatments contain fourteen percent moisture. The moisture of the group of storage without vacuum storage bag is markedly lower than the group sealed by vacuum storage bag without ozone treatments and the group of storage with ozone treatments, but there isn’t different between the moisture of the group sealed by vacuum storage bag without ozone treatments and the group of storage with ozone treatments. With properties of gas-resisting and water-resisting, the vacuum storage bag can maintain moisture of Codonopsis Radix markedly. The ozone treatments can’t reduce the extract content and the Lobetyolin.
