Uremic encephalopathy is one of the common complications of acute and chronic renal failure. It is the accumulation of uremic toxins in the body for leading to the central nervous system lesion, causing acute or subacute nervous and mental symptoms. According to the location and degree of the lesion, its clinical manifestations are varied but unspecific. So, it is very easy to cause misdiagnosis, missed diagnosis, and increase the mortality rate of patients. Therefore, we review etiology, pathogenesis, pathologic feature, clinical manifestation, auxiliary examination, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of uremic encephalopathy to improve clinician awareness of the disease for early detection, early treatment and reducing the mortality.
