Objective: To investigate human papillomavirus(HPV) infection and the distribution of viral genotypes among 611 pregnant women in Zunyi. Methods: From December 2014 to December 2015, cervical cell specimens were collected from the gynecological patients of the Affiliated Hospital of Zunyi Medical College and among whom 611 were pregnant and 983 were non-pregnant. A total of 21 HPV genotypes were detected through PCR and flow-through hybridization. Results: The infection rate among a total of 1594 women was 20.01%(319/1594), with HPV 52, 16, 58, the most frequent high-risk HPV types, and the main genotypes of low-risk HPV were HPV 6 and 81. The infection rate of pregnant women was 20.46%(125/611), with HPV 52, 16, 58, the most frequent high-risk HPV types, and the main genotypes of low-risk HPV were HPV 6 and 81. The high-risk HPV infection rate among pregnant women was 18.82%(115/611), and the low-risk HPV infection rate was 7.20%(44/611), with a single genotype infection rate of 15.71%(96/611) and a multiple genotype infection rate of 4.75%(29/611). The infection rate of non-pregnant women was 19.74%(194/983), and HPV 52, 16, 58 were the most frequent high-risk HPV types, the main genotypes of low-risk HPV were HPV 11 and 81. The high-risk HPV infection rate among non-pregnant women was 17.70%(174/983), and the low-risk HPV infection rate was 3.36%(33/983), with a single genotype infection rate of 15.26%(150/983) and a multiple genotype infection rate of 4.48%(44/983). In terms of age group, infection rates of pregnant women who were 21-29, 30-40, and beyond 40 years old were respectively 22.86%(64/280), 21.26%(54/254), and 9.09%(7/77), and those of non-pregnant women were 25.89%(29/112), 19.42%(108/556) and 18.10%(57/315). The infection rates of pregnant women during early, mid and late pregnancy were respectively 19.41%(85/438), 21.90%(30/137), and 22.22%(8/36). Low-risk HPV 42 was the only type that was not detected of the 21 HPV genotypes. Conclusion: The infection rate of pregnant women was 20.46%, which had no statistical difference compared to that among the non-pregnant women, and the infection is characterized with high-risk HPV genotypes and single genotypes infecting, with the most frequent high-risk HPV types being HPV 52, 16, 58, which is identical with those of non-pregnant women. The infection rate of pregnant was inversely related to maternal age, the younger pregnant women are more susceptible to HPV infection and follow-up study is essential. Women of child-bearing age are advised to take pre-pregnancy HPV detection.
