This thesis summarizes the pathogenesis and existing therapies of abnormal uterine bleeding. Comparative study shows that, as one of the novel techniques of endometrial ablation, Thermal balloon ablation can achieve therapeutic aim by controlling hypermenorrhea. Besides, it performs operation without anaesthesia and Hysteroscopic. With few complications and simple operations, Thermal balloon ablation can be conducted in outpatient clinics, which indicates its potential as a widely adopted treatment for abnormal uterine bleeding.Based on the principles and systems of thermal balloon based endometrial ablation devices, the present paper compares two prevailing thermal balloon systems in the market, i.e., Cavaterm and Thermablate. First, the article draws a comparison on the principles, technical schemes and performance indicators of functions including temperature controlling, pressure monitoring and time controlling. Then, the article investigates their heating control units, thermal cycling systems, pressure control modules and insulation materials. After that, the article points out their deficiencies in terms of pressure monitoring and balloon catheter. Meanwhile, a comparison on heat source, safety and effectiveness is made between thermal balloon system and Novasure-- a radiofrequency ablation based endometrial ablation device. Results show that the energy source and technology of thermal balloon system are safer and more reliable. Finally, clinical data reveal the satisfactory safety and practicability of thermal balloon system, therefore, indicate that thermal balloon system is appropriate for hospital outpatient clinics as well as primary health care institutions.Subsequently, this thesis studies the availability of Cavaterm thermal balloon system. By analyzing its performance data and misuse which might occur during identification process, the present thesis concludes that on one hand, Cavaterm has good safety as a whole with small operation risks. On the other hand, its system design is not flawless. Aimed at the drawbacks, some suggestions for improvement are proposed. In the end, the present thesis summarizes common questions and solutions involved when using Cavaterm. With all these in mind, the current article proposes an intelligent thermal balloon endometrial ablation system consisting of balloon catheter, quantitative injector and safety monitoring system. Made of novel materials, balloon catheter has high surface lubricity which prevents adherence of blood and proteins, and also ensures high expansion strain performance. Quantitative injector can automatically complete balloon infusion as required. Safety monitoring system can automatically control pressure, temperature, capacity and flow rate of fluid injection pressurized balloon. According to the design philosophy of novel thermal balloon therapy, temperature and pressure are the most important parameters of the device. Temperature measurement and control directly influence the effectiveness and safety of treatment. As one of the key factors, precise pressure measurement indicates whether the balloon is closely attached to endometrium. In conclusion, this thesis proposes a measurement and control system with temperature and pressure measurement as well as heat control function. Experiments verified the effectiveness of its functions and provided technical support for the productization of novel thermal balloon endometrial ablation system.
