Objective: To evaluate skin elasticity of the dermis layer in patients with psoriasis in acute phase and convalescence. Methods: 14 skin lesions in dermis layer of 12 patients who were hospitalized in Beijing Meidi skin disease hospital from October 2015 to February 2016 with psoriasis were enrolled. Firstly Supersonic Aixplore ultrasonic diagnostic instrument was applied to detect ultrasonography images in the skin lesions both in acute phase and convalescence. Then we used the Supersonic Aixplore to detect 14 skin lesions in dermis layer of 12 patients with psoriasis, got the Young’s modulus in acute phase and convalescence. Results: The ultrasonography images in patients with psoriasis were typically characterized. In acute phase, thickness of the epidermis layer and the dermis layer were thickened than normal. The echo of the epidermis layer was enhanced and the echo of the dermis layer was heterogeneously diminished, with gross vascularity and visible more diminished echo in the shallow dermis. In the convalescence the epidermis layer and dermis layer were consistent with the surrounding normal skin, skin epidermis layer for linear strong echo and dermis layer for homogeneous hypoecho. The elasticity measurement: The maximum, mean and minimum Young’s modulus in acute phase were(64.8±29.9) k Pa,(52.1±26.3) k Pa,(41.8±22.3) k Pa, in convalescence were(35.1 ±20.3) k Pa,(29.0±17.5) k Pa and(25.1±15.2) k Pa. The maximum, mean, minimum Young’s modulus in acute phase were significantly higher than that in convalescence, the differences were statistically significant(P = 0.000, P = 0.000, P = 0.000, respectively). Conclusion: Shear wave elastography as a stable tool can determine the skin elasticity of the dermis layer in patients with psoriasis quantitatively. The technology of shear wave elastography lays the foundation for the evaluation of other skin diseases.
