Objective This research was aimed at seeking a better way to achieve double lumen tube intubation(DLT) by comparing three different kinds of laryngoscopes.Method 60 patients who were scheduled for thoracic surgery and required DLT intubation were enrolled in our study. They were randomly distributed in three groups which were Group M(Macintosh laryngoscope n=20), Group G(Glidescope laryngoscope n=20) and Group A(Airtraq laryngoscope n=20). The Cormack-Lehane Grade, time of glottis visualization and intubation time, hemodynamic changes and complications related to intubation were recorded and compared. Results The time of glottis visualization in Group G and Group A was shorter than in Group M(p<0.5), and the glottis exposure in these two groups was better. The Cormack-Lehane grade was I in all patients in both Group G and Group A.While the intubation time in Group M and Group A was shorter than in Group G. However, there was no significant different between Group G and Group A regarding glottis visualization and no substantial difference between Group M and Group A in terms of intubation time. Moreover, similar tendency of hemodynamic changes were found in those three groups. Patients in group G and group A had less complications related to intubation. Conclusion Airtraq laryngoscope which was associated with better glottis visualization, faster intubation and less complications could be a better choice for double lumen tube intubation compared to Macintosh laryngoscope and Glidescope laryngoscope.
