As an integration of oncological surgery and plastic surgery, oncoplastic surgery helps the breast cancer patients who originally had an indication of mastectomy to successfully conserve their breast. It can completely remove breast carcinoma and achieve satisfactory cosmetic results at the same time. At present, oncoplastic breast-conserving surgery is a burgeoning surgical technique with increasing popularity all over the world, which offers a new treatment option for more and more patients attacked by breast cancer. Compared with traditional breast-conserving surgery, this new surgical technique expands the indication of breast-conserving surgery, which performs a wider local excision and more acceptable mastoplasty effect with higher patient satisfaction. Nevertheless, oncoplastic breast-conserving surgery makes more complicated incisions and greater structural changes to breast parenchyma while reconstructing breast appearance, which may bring some negative impacts to adjuvant treatment, follow-up and the prognosis of breast carcinoma. In order to better study its technical characteristics and research progress, the author reviewed recent articles regarding oncoplastic breast-conserving surgery and discussed in several aspects about surgical technique classification, oncological effects, cosmetic effects, radiotherapy localization, postoperative follow-up and its indication.
