Objective: Through the detection of levels of serum visfatin in systemtic lupus erythematosus(SLE), and analyze the correlation between visfatin and some datas, explore the correlation between visfatin and insulin resistance(IR).Method: 65 SLE patients and 24 healty controls were studied. We divided the SLE patients into different groups: BMI≥28kg/m2 is the obese group and BMI<28kg/m2 is the non-obese group, HOMA-IR≥2.2 is the IR group and HOMA-IR<2.2 is the non-IR group,SLEDAI≥10 is the active group and SLEDAI<10 is the remisson group, the glucocorticosticoid unused group and>7.5mg/d of prednisone used group and ≤7.5mg/d of prednisone used group. Liner correlation analyss and multiple regression analysis were used to investigate the related factors to visfatin in SLE.Results: 1. The SLE patients had significantly higher TG and LDL and lower HDL than the controls, which suggest that SLE patients have abnormal lipid metabolism. Compaerd with the controls, SLE patients showed significantly higher FG, FINS, HOMA-IR and lower ISI, it’s suggested that SLE patients have IR. 2. The SLE patients have higher levels of serum visfatin than the controls. The levels of serum visfatin in the obese group is higher than the non-obese group, the IR group is higher than the non-IR group, the levels of serum visfatin shows no difference in the active group and the remmison group, the glucocorticosticoid unused group and≤7.5mg/d of glucocorticosticoid used group and >7.5mg/d of glucocorticosticoid used group showed no difference. 3. The levels of serum visfatin is positively correlated with BMI, WHR, FG and HOMA-IR(ln), and BMI and HOMA-IR(ln) are the independent factors to serum visfatin. Conclusion: 1. SLE patients have a higher risk of abnormal lipid metabolism and insulin resistance. Obsity, especially the abdominal obesity is the main reason for the impaired insulin sensitivity and IR in SLE, in addition to the classical IR releated factors, inmmune and inflammatory response in SLE is also involved in the mechanism of IR. 2. SLE pateints have higher levels of serum visfatin than healthy controls. The levels of serum visfatin is associated with obese and vascular inflammation in SLE. 3. SLE patients with abnormal serum visfatin may be involved in the occurrence of IR in SLE.
