Objectives: To Systematic evaluation the anti-reflux effect between the conventional anastomosis and additional fundoplication anastomosis after esophageal resection. Methods: We searched the electronic bibliographic databases including PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Knowledge, The Cochrane Library, Wanfang Data and vip etc to assemble the randomized controlled trials(RCTs) about different anastomosis after esophageal resection from inception to January 2015. Two reviewers independently screened literature and extracted data according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and assessed methodological quality. Then meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.3 software. Results: A total of 11 RCTs involving 1391 patients were included. The results of meta-analysis showed that, Compared with conventional anastomosis, additional fundoplication anastomosis can significantly reduce the rate of anastomotic reflux(OR=0.18, 95%CI: 0.09~0.33), P<0.00 001), At the same time it does not increase the rate of anastomotic stricture(OR=0.53, 95%CI: 0.28~0.99), P=0.05).Conclusion: additional fundoplication for esophageal resection can significantly reduce the reflux happening.
