Objective:Observation of treatment plan with Jiajianzoufeitang and Bilevel positive airway pressure(BiPAP) in patients with Acute Exacerbations of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases(AECOPD accompanied by respiratory failure.Methods:59 qualified patients were randomly selected into treatment branch of 29 and control one with 30. No significance exists in patient’s demographic information. (p>0.05) Subjects in the treatment branch received Jiajianzoufeitang and BiPAP while the control one receiving general management for COPD in modern medicine, with a span of two weeks. Clinical presentations, Arterial Blood Gas (PH, PO2, PCO2), C-Reactive Protein (CRP) data were also collected and analyzed statistically. A series of other clinical measurements that include Complete Blood Count (CBC), Electrocardiography, Chemistry 10 Panel and associated side effects of the treatment were also monitored.Result:1. Treatment reached an effectiveness of 96.66% comparing with 89.65% by the control group suggesting a significant superiority of the treatment group. (p<0.05)2. A significant improvement in patient’s symptoms and other presentations was noticed in the treatment branch in comparison with the control branch.(p<0.05)3. Treatment group presented a significantly more satisfying results in ABG (PH,PO2 and PCO2) and CRP. (p<0.05)4. No significant side effect was observed in the treatment branch during the study. Conclusion:Jiajianzoufeitang and BiPAP exhibited significant superiority comparing with the control group managed in pure western medicine in our study. With minimal side effect, it helped patients in drainage of sputum decreased the side effects from BiPAP and mortality rate. Comparing with management in western medicine, it is also superior with improved quality in patient’s life and their financial burdens. Based on theories of "Lung and Kidney.
