BACKGROUNDTumor occurrence and development is closely related to inflammation, recent studies have shown that chronic inflammation is closely related to serum proteins, Prior studies have demonstrated the prognostic value of pretreatment serum albumin in different types of cancer. and currently research on albumin to globulin ratio (AGR) and the prognosis of breast cancer is less. The aim of this study was to assess the predictive value of the AGR on survival in breast cancer patients.MethodsThis retrospective study used an unselected cohort of 236 breast cancer patients treated at the Yangzhou Subei People’s Hospital, between January 2007 and December 2011. Of this cohort, patients undergoing statistics of last preoperative liver function data. Record age, serum total protein, serum albumin (ALB), serum globulin (GLB), AGR and pathological data. According to ROC curve, taking into account the sensitivity and specificity, select AGR=1.77 as the critical value, the patients were divided into low AGR Group (AGR<1.77) and high AGR Group (AGR> 1.77). Analysis of two groups of patients clinicopathologic factors, the relationship between disease-free survival and overall survival. All data were statistically analyzed using spss19.0 software testing standards set at P<0.05. AGR is serum albumin/(total serum protein-serum albumin).ResultsThe 236 cases of relapse into groups and non-recurrence group, relapse group AGR less than the non-recurrence group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.001).In univariate analysis of the prognostic results, showing lymph node,Grade, ER, HER2 status, TNM stage, albumin, AGR and disease-free survival rate has a relationship, the difference was statistically significant. At the same time, diameter of tumor, lymph node metastasis, TNM, ER, Grade, HER2, AGR and overall survival rate has a relationship, the difference is statistically significant. Analysis of the relationship between AGR before surgery and clinical and pathologic factors between the discovery AGR and TNM (P=0.001) were significantly associated. Kaplan-Meier method drawn with 5-year overall survival rate was 71.6%, which AGR> 1.77 group,77.8%; AGR<1.76 group 67.8%:5-year disease free survival rate was 66.9%%, which AGR≥1.77 group,75.6%; AGR<1.76 group 61.6% Log-rank test showed that the difference was statistically significant (P<0.001).ConclusionPreoperative AGR<1.77 prognosis than AGR>1.77 in patients with poor prognosis. Pretreatment AGR is an independent, significant predictor of long-term mortality in breast cancer patients, This easily obtained variable may serve as a valuable marker to predict the outcomes of such patient population.
